Predicting Mater

"Grown don't mean nothing to a mother. A child is a child. They get bigger, older, but grown? What's that suppose to mean? In my heart it don't mean a thing."
-From the novel 'Beloved' by Toni Morrison

I should have known. I should have known better than to mention to my mother that I had run out of tea and drained my supply.
I should have known that she would not answer the telephone when I called thirty minutes later.
She did not, could not answer.
She was not there.
She was standing in line in the village post office making absolutely sure that I would get my tea.

Awwww...don't you just love mothers? Their love is unwavering. This post feels like a warm blanket wrapped around the shoulders, and of course, a cup of good tea in hand.

I had a wonderful conversation with my mom on the phone tonight...I get to see her in just over a week!

I have realized that being a parent is a job that has no end.

Jaime, I can't tell my mother anything :) She just goes off and gets what I need and she's an unstoppable force.
Texican, true, it never ends- she goes to bed worried about me sometimes like if I have a headache or something. It will always be that way.

Do you use Skype to keep in touch with your mother? Sara and I are used to 3 or 4 phone calls a day and several instant message sessions--I hope she has a good internet connection wherever the Peace Corps sends her--we think it's the Ukraine but she should find out today.

Beth, I talk to my mother three or four times a day also. We use Lingo Voice-over Internet Provider. Their rates have crawled up and up since we first used them, so we're looking for something else but it's still far better than calling cards- which we used to use- or a land line. We also have unlimited calling to most of Europe, Canada and the US. Not sure where else but it's been a blessing.
Good luck to Sara- what an adventure. Wow.

she just got the letter and her posting is to Macedonia. She hadn't expected that, but she is very excited. She doesn't want me to post it on my blog until she tells everyone but I can put it here.

I wish Sara all the luck in the world. How wonderful to go travelling and working so young.

What a perfectly lovely mother! Be sure to tell her we all adore her.

Now I'm going to call mine and give her a kiss over the phone.

Tangobaby, thank you kindly. I'll tell Mater when I talk to her tomorrow :) She's been off work for a couple of weeks now with muscle and joint pain and not having a routine is really difficult. Thanks for that, it will cheer her!
